Picture Book Ideas for Summer

Bright skies ahead, my friends! I am just really so excited that there are only a few weeks left until Summer begins and I can imagine that you are as well. I know we sometimes like to send our students off with a fun summer reading challenge or keep the reading going for our kids. Even sharing a fun summer read-aloud towards the end of the year can be a great way to get your students excited about what’s to come. So today, I am sharing some of my favorite picture book ideas for summer!

These picture books are giving all of the summertime nostalgia— beach days, catching fireflies, camping trips, cooling off in the pool, and much more! And of course, there’s always a sweet message to go along with it. I’ve included Amazon links to each book below so you can get an idea of what to expect, but of course, you can likely find these summer reads at other book shops.

  1. Goldfish on Vacation by Sally Lloyd-Jones
  2. Swashby and the Sea by Beth Ferry
  3. Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall
  4. Surfer Chick by Kristy Dempsey
  5. The Little Red Fort by Brenda Maier
  6. Fireflies! By Julie Brinckloe
  7. The Raft by Jim LaMarche
  8. The Camping Trip by Jennifer K. Mann
  9. Cannonball by Sacha Cotter
