Are you sick of me talking about organization yet? Well, I’m hoping that since I’m spending this summer tackling all of my projects I will never have to do this again, ha! It’s too bad there’s always organization to do when you are a teacher.
Filing Boxes:
Today I have a new organizational method for you that is very inexpensive and practical. It reminds me of THIS post that I wrote several years ago. This can be done with any of your teaching units AND in a filing cabinet, filing crates, or filing boxes. It’s very versatile and easy to maintain.
Since I have organized almost all of my Rooted in Reading materials, I decided to complete this project with Magic of Math. BUT, I have to tell you this first. A sweet homeschool teacher in my area reached out to me because she had prepped several Magic of Math units/grade levels for her children. She was done using them with her kiddos, so she wanted to donate them to another teacher. All of these materials that I organized were basically already put together for me. I just transferred them to the file folder and bins. She had everything nice, divided out, and organized! I am so thankful she decided to bless another teacher rather than throw it all out! Now I get to gift these units at the Get Your Teach On conference.
Now, let’s get started. I purchased two different items for this project. I found the filing tubs and hanging folders on Amazon. If you want to use a filing cabinet, you do not need those boxes! And any hanging file folder will work. I love three things about these tubs:
- They are sturdy (easy to move from place to place).
- They have a lid (helps keep the dust out).
- They can be used with legal or letter sized folders (I used letter).
What’s Inside:
I found these bright hanging folders and knew I had to have them. I got way too many for this particular project, but I am going to continue using them as I clean up the rest of my files. Look at those colors though…
Now let’s take a look at the inside of the tubs. I put each day into its own regular file folder. Then I hung 2-3 file folders in each hanging folder. I was able to fit two units into one tub.
What I love about this is I was able to easily slide all of the baggies that Ms. Melanie had assembled into the folder for the day. When a specific day is needed, you just pull that file folder out and see what needs to be prepped!
Here’s a closer look at a daily folder. I love how the lesson plans are right there to look at with all of the materials!
PS… I LOVED looking through all of these activities that Hope and I created over the years. Magic of Math was such a labor of love, and seeing everything assembled just made my heart happy!
File Folders:
Here you can see everything that Ms. Melanie had prepped. So easy to access and put away year after year.
It also makes it to where you can go in between units and days fairly easily because you can get to the materials so quick. I think this would make a teacher’s planning so much faster!
When you are done with materials, toss them into the folder and you are good to go!
I also made labels for the bins. They are very similar to the labels I made for Rooted in Reading. You can find those HERE.
I cannot wait to give these materials to four lucky teachers next week! What a blessing that Ms. Melanie will be to so many students!
Ready to go!
I have put all of the labels into one document so that you can organize right alongside of me! I have generic labels like you see in the pictures. I also have the labels with grade levels for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.
If you aren’t on my email list, subscribe below to grab your Magic of Math Organizational FREEBIE! Once you subscribe, check your email (make sure it isn’t in SPAM), and click “Confirm Subscription” The document will download immediately after! If you are using a school email address, it may not work. Many districts block emails such as these! Use a personal email address, and you should be good to go!
Don’t forget that I have other organization posts as well:

Hi there! I love all that you do and I’m really hoping to use your Write On bundle for 2nd grade this next school year. I can’t swing $124 and I was hoping that maybe you had a coupon code on TPT available? I would be forever grateful! This will be my second year teaching and I’m not a fan of our curriculum. I bought your bundle for Opinion Writing at the end of last year and absolutely LOVED it! I would really love to use your materials all year long.
Thanks for making such great plans and sharing them with the world!
Krystal
I’m sure that TpT will be having a sale before school starts, I’m just not sure when those dates will be!
