Division, Prepositions, and Robert Munsch!

Not that I’m counting the days or anything but it seems that we have 16 days left… 1 is Field Day, 1 is the Field Trip, and 3 are half days (with awards, parties, etc).  That means we have 11 instructional days left.  That, my friends, is absolutely CRAZY!  For those of you that get out before me… I just can’t talk to you right now because the jealousy is a little out of control.
This week has been nothing short of busy.  As we near the end of the year, I am trying to make sure that my students are constantly working.  Any downtime will result in behavior problems, and I just don’t want to deal with all that… if ya know what I mean!  I feel like we have barely had time to breathe these days because there’s just so much to do!!
In Math we have been working on dividing objects into equal groups.  I am using lots of the activities from my Dishing Out Division unit.  Thankfully my kiddos LOVE multiplication and division because they feel like big stuff.  It helps keep them motivated and engaged!

If you know anything about me, you know I LOVE Pocket-Books.  I love even more that my students can whip them together in no time because we have done so many this year!
For Grammar, we have been working on prepositions.  We’ve been sorting, making sentences, and identifying prepositions like crazy.  You can get these freebies HERE.
As I was reading Joelle her bedtime story last night, I noticed a lot of prepositions.  We bought the book The Adventures of Gary and Harry in Hawaii last year and I must say, it’s a family favorite.  Anytime we can mentally take ourselves back to Hawaii is a good time!  So, I brought the book to school today and pulled out my turtle craftivity. My students wrote any kind of story about turtles… their only rule was to use at least 6 prepositions in their story.
You can get the writing paper HERE.
We’ve been having such a good time during Reading because it’s Robert Munsch week!  I can’t even tell you how much my students love Mr. Munsch.  If you don’t carve out a week to read his books, you must!  We listen to all of the stories using his website, and just follow along with my books.
After we read Smelly Socks (which always gets tons of laughs!) we wrote letters to the main character, Tina, to give her some advice.  My students also designed her new socks so that she would have a few more in her sock rotation 🙂  These templates are in my Robert Munsch unit.

We crack up at Aaron’s Hair, too!  They are all just too much!
Today we read The Paper Bag Princess… it’s actually my first year to read this one during our Robert Munsch week.  I will definitely do it year after year from now on because my students loved this one also!  My teammate came up with this cute craft, so we incorporated it right away!  My students made the Paper Bag Princess and wrote the summary of the story on a notecard.

As always, I absolutely love seeing the creativity of my students come out.  We may be working a lot, but we are having tons of fun also!!
