Well, we are officially in full swing at school. With progress reports already coming out next week, I had to kick it into gear to really get some grades recorded! So, I’ve spent several of my nights grading papers and entering grades, YUCK! That’s probably one of my least favorite things to do as a teacher, but I’m sure I’m not alone on that one!
So, in the midst of grading papers, we did learn A LOT and had some fun! Here are some of the activities that we completed from my “Strengthen Your Sentences” unit.
We made our Sentence Superhero hats, and my kiddos just about fell in love with these things. They were very diligent workers during this activity!
We also made the Asking/Exciting/Telling Flapbook from my unit…
And sorted Asking/Telling sentences into a Pocket Book!
Thankfully, now I have lots of English grades. So, this makes me one happy teacher… especially since most of the time my students didn’t even know they were completing graded work! It’s a win/win kind of thing 🙂
In math, we have been doing everything possible to really grasp place value. The great thing is, there are so many awesome lessons out there, so if something isn’t working with your kiddos you can try a plethora of activities! To put a fun spin on our concept this week, we used Abby’s Marshmallow Math. Can I just tell you how wonderful my class was during this because they couldn’t eat unless the behaved! Genius!
And, we reviewed tens and ones with a Bingo game from Cara’s Place Value Packet of Fun! I’ve gotten lots of great math centers from this pack, definitely check it out if you haven’t already!
Well, that’s it for me! You can tell how eventful my night has been since I’m blogging on a Friday evening! I brought home TONS of school work to do this weekend, and it made it’s way out of my car. Now, let’s just see if I actually tackle any of those projects 🙂

Super cute! I taught 2nd grade for 3 years and I wish I had an acronym to help them remember! I teach 4th now and I bet I could still use it somehow…
(Hate to be a downer, but you spelled 'superhero' wrong on your poster :/ )
Love your blog; frequent lurker but infrequent commenter!
Thanks JB…. I didn't even realize that! I took the picture down, but my ignorance is all over Pinteret now, dangit! I'll fix it and repost next week 🙂
I am teaching sentence structure and punctuation to my 2nd graders this week, so this will be a perfect unit! Thanks for showing off your activities!

Love the SWAG, but have already ingrained another acronym with my kiddos, however, for the last couple of years I have dressed up as Super Sentence Girl (my daughter was Wonder Woman a few years ago-the cape, belt and wrist bands are a perfect added touch!). Scholastic has a book Super Sentence Girl in their Grammar Tales series. It would go perfectly with your unit! It will tie in for me wonderfully even if I don't SWAG it:)
Hi,
I loved your SWAG acronym yesterday when I saw it! I wanted to recreate it for my class this week but could not remember what each letter stands for. Could you please let me know what the letters stand for . Thanks! I would really appreciate it : )
Love the super hero sentences, sooooo cute thanks for sharing. I'll be doing that as soon as we end this strike in Chicago 🙁
