One more day til Friday, y’all! I am super excited about tomorrow because we get to wear jeans, YAY! This is always a big deal in my neck of the woods {We try to tell the people above us that we’d be such better teachers if we were able to wear jeans everyday;)}. I always love seeing my kiddos in their normal clothes instead of uniforms.
This week has been jam-packed with noun activities! Go {HERE} to download some noun activities
I wrote 20 sentences on Popsicle sticks (one for each student) that contained different types of nouns (person, place, thing, common, proper, and even pronouns). I had each student read their sentence aloud to the class, and we all searched for the nouns to chart!
In the past, I just have the students help me generate a list of nouns, but I wanted to go a little deeper with it. The sentences really led us to some great conversations. Several kiddos wanted to put verbs or adjectives on our list, so we were able to talk about those types of words also. We had some extra space on our chart, so they were able to generate a few nouns to finish out our lists. Once we finished making our list, I went through and circled all of the proper nouns. Then, my kiddos had to figure out what all of the circled words had in common, and why I chose to circle them {of course, I have some smarties that knew right away they were proper nouns ;)}Then, I covered up our chart, and had the kids make a noun foldable with their partner.
I asked them to write/draw 5 nouns under each flap. They did a pretty good job! I was impressed 🙂

We rarely get to wear jeans either. Usually it is a fund raiser. Sometimes it is for a child in the hospital or a family who has suffered a tragedy. If we forget or miss it, it is a big let down. I have used some of your noun activities this week and the kids loved them. Some teachers from another county were visiting and asked where I got my activities and I took them to your blog. Hope you don't mind. I bragged on it.
You have such awesome ideas…I just love your blog! Thanks so much for always sharing. I've been taking pictures of stuff we do but I'm not good at posting as I just feel too tired every night! I know what you mean about jeans…we are lucky b/c every Friday for us is jean day–however I have worked in schools where it's a fundraiser thing too. Enjoy jean day! Stacee

I live in California and jeans are ok where I teach. It is a nice perk!! I do wear them, but I make sure that I have a nice top on and nice shoes.
