I love that flipbook with the venn diagram. Thanks for the idea. I've been one of the ones in Atlanta with the weather. I just wrote about it on the blog. Thanks for the fun idea though as my county is the only major metro county to head back tomorrow.
Lessons Learned
Your students are amazingly talented! I feel like my kids rush through artwork. We are on our 3rd week straight of indoor recess–AHH!
Just curious how low the temp has to be to call it indoor in Texas? We stay in if it is 25 degrees or less.

In central VA, we have missed more school this year than in quite some time! I can't remember the last time we went outside to play! I love the detail your children put in to their artwork!

My kids LOVE Bubba the Cowboy Prince when we read a book to compare to Cinderella. They think it's hilarious because of the Fairy Godcow! Bigfoot Cinderrrrrella is another great one!

I love the Venn Diagrams! We have been reading fairy tales and comparing and contrasting them lately too. Have you ever read Smoky Mountain Rose? It's an Appalachian Cinderella story and is HILARIOUS! It's written in a fun dialect and my kids die laughing every time I read it. 🙂
I absolutely LOVE the idea of writing to the stepsisters! There is nothing that matches a child's innocence! My favourite is 'the tale of peter rabbit' not quite a fairy tale but my favourite none the less 😀

We're getting ready to start our unit on Freedom and then we'll be working on comparing and contrasting fairy tales in the next unit. I love the fractured fairy tales books by Nancy Loewen (a set of four new books is on sale right now for $12 on the Scholastic Reading Club site!). They are great for comparing and contrasting different versions of fairy tales and the students love them too!
I love Princess Furball and Dinorella–two very different versions of the Cinderella story. The Talking Eggs is also a Cajun version with two very mean and spiteful stepsisters! Thanks for sharing the flipbook compare/contrast idea! We start Fairy Tales at the end of February!
