Today I visited a 1st grade class, and I want to share what we did! Comment SANTA & I'll send you the 🔗 to this activity.
🎅🏽Our focus text was "When Santa was a Baby"
🎅🏽 I put candy canes in a box and wrapped it up.
🎅🏽 Before reading, we pulled out a letter. The letter told us we must use our listening ears to describe Santa throughout all of his years! So, before opening the gift, we needed to read the story and describe Santa!
🎅🏽 As we were reading, we jotted down adjectives.
🎅🏽 We added those adjectives to the present to decorate it!
🎅🏽 I led students in a directed drawing of Santa.
🎅🏽 We didn't get to this, but you could also have students describe Santa around his picture.
🎅🏽 OH! And we opened the present to reveal the candy canes that were inside for the kiddos!
It was such a fun day filled with the cutest little class!!

Today I had the honor of reading Silver Packages to about 120 2nd graders 🩶 I put objects that represent important story events in a silver package. We pulled each item out one by one as a way of previewing the text. We made predictions and stored all of those little ideas in our brains as we read the text. Afterwards, we discussed the lessons that we learned throughout the story.
