Subtraction Strategies

Shortly after I made my Addition Strategies pack, I knew that subtraction would follow soon.  I mean, we all need a little help with that tricky minus sign, right?!  Well, it only took me a year to mark this ditty off of my to-do list.  Life just sometimes gets in the way, ya know?!
But, alas, it’s finally done and I *may* be ready to tackle subtraction this year (after I finish thoroughly enjoying my summer vacation that is!)
I actually had a lot of fun creating this little guy because I was finally able to channel some inner creativity.  Don’t get me wrong… I’m super thankful for my handwriting and spelling units because they will save me a ton of time throughout the year BUT they were brutal to put together!
I’m going to break down what’s inside, so stick with me 🙂

  1. Your stuff is so awesome. I love seeing picture of you and Joelle. And.. Christmas in July… even better! I am a fairly new blogger and when I copy and paste your button it links back to my blog when I click on it. Not sure if it is a technical error on my part or if I somehow messed up your button. Either way I removed it from my blog and would love to put it back the right way! I will work on it from my end, I just wanted to make sure that your button didn't get messed up. If it somehow did, please let me know and I will pay to fix it.

My favorite math activity is some sort of foldable for our Math Journals! The kids love to look back on work they did well on. It gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment!

  3. My favorite math activities are your math stations. They are meaningful, engaging, and fun for students! They got so much practice and review with them last year – I'm adding to my repertoire for this year!

  4. My favorite math activity is anything where students can work and apply their learning. Their connections and aha-moments are so exciting to see!

  5. I don't know what my favorite math activity would be but I love math workshops and interactive math notebooks! I think they are both so beneficial! Thanks for doing a giveaway!

  6. All this talk about addition and subtraction has me ready to tackle another year in 2nd grade. It will be my 2nd year as a teacher!! So much to still learn 🙂

  7. Love all of your products and posts! I am going to start teaching 2nd grade this year and I know I will be turning to your blog and products ALL THE TIME!! Thank you!

  8. I started to explore math centers last year and it seems like the direction our district is going. They are by far my (and the kids') favorite time during math! They love playing all the games and I love being able to meet in small groups with students! I will be starting off with centers right away this year!

  10. Looks great! But in your pic where you are trying to illustrate 12-8 it looks to me like it's really showing 12-4?

  11. I am an {almost} teacher about to finish up my senior year, but I LOVE the idea of math stations and allowing my students to interact with each other. I would LOVE to win these two products 🙂

  14. Hi Amy! You are my “go to” gal! My team and I just loooooove your stuff! My favorite math items of yours are the Easy as 1-2-3 Math Centers and the I Can Regroup unit. My students benefit so much from the review all year long! Hope you and your little one are having a great summer! I enjoy seeing all your pictures and all of her HAIR ACCESSORIES! 🙂

  15. I would love to win these two units! I absolutely adore everything you make. I think I own half of your store. One of my favorite math activities to teach is multiplication. We introduce it in second grade and my kiddos love it. I have your pack and everything in it is so fun and great! I know these two packs would be no exception. Fingers crossed!

  16. My favorite math strategy is using math journals and creating easy to use math folders. Anything set up like a game is always fun for students.

  17. I love anything that is hands-on, authentic, and meaningful to students (i.e. words problems using student names and about things they are interested in)! Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

  18. I LOVE these! A lot of these activities would be perfect for our interactive journals. And I really want to do more math craftivities this year! My favorite kind of math is hands on, fun, and the kind when the kids don't even realize they are learning! 🙂

  20. I'm excited to try an interactive math notebook this year, with help from Lucky Little Learners! I also love your shapes unit! My class really enjoyed it last year!

  21. I love your stuff! Our years flow along at about the same pace. I'm in Missouri so it's fun to see how aligned our teaching is!! Thanks for making my life sooo much easier!

  22. Wow! Totally love these! I would love to win the addition & subtraction units. I just finished my first year teaching and am looking for more activities to add to my centers for math stations! I love the little hundreds charts and number lines you have added to use with the activities!

  23. My fav activity with my kids is creating the comparing monsters. They get two toung depressors and make a greater than or less than sign as the mouth and draw the rest of the body to go with it. Then they always put the biggest number in the mouth. We hang them in the room and they can remember the direction.

  24. Math is my favorite subject, so I love teaching it all! Last year we jumped with both feet into CCSS, and my kiddos did really well! (Their parents, not so much!) I think my favorite part of teaching math now is adding and subtracting with regrouping while using base 10. Pretty specific 😉

  25. I am new to Second Grade and have purchased some you great products. Your “Step into Second Grade” blog is so helpful. I was worried about changing grades and not having my favorite blogs. I am glad your are sharing your talents. I love the math stations.

  26. My favorite math activity is any type of hands-on game. I think that the students really learn a skill when they are immersed in authentic practice. Love when learning happens without them knowing it! 😉

  27. I love teaching anything math! I like math journals because they give so much insight on a child's thinking and thought processing! So fun to see a child's personality shine through their thinking! A definite open window to their mind!

  28. My favorite math activities are blard races and scoot. The students are always so engaged! My favorite unit to teach is place value because I love love using the base ten blocks and I know the students do too!

  29. Favorite math activity is pulling out the manipulatives to prove their thinking. I love listening to children rationalize their answers.

  30. I really enjoy teaching math. My kiddos come to school with very little number sense. I like teaching with ten frames. I also enjoy teaching mental math strategies. I really love your addition unit and plan on using your subtraction unit later in the year when my kids are ready for it!

  31. I just love reading your blog. I've also enjoyed using your telling time resources as that is an area that's really lacking in the materials provided from my school board. Your subtraction package looks awesome as well. Thanks for sharing your passion for teaching.

  32. My favorite math activities are when students get to move around! Either with manipulatives or scoot.

By the way, will you be bundling these? Ya know, in case I don't win. 🙂

  33. So excited to have found your blog! I am moving back to 2nd grade after almost 10 years of being in 5th grade. I am looking forward to the change. So much to gather new and thankful I can read about your products and ideas!

  34. I love working with interactive notebooks during math class. The kids get so excited when I tell them to take out their notebooks.

  35. Oh, and my favorite math activities are fraction pizzas and fraction gum ball machines. My first group of kiddos last year thoroughly enjoyed all of your fraction activities.

  36. Love playing games to learn math. My favorite is called race to a flat. It's perfect for teaching regrouping without ever having to write a number. I find when I teach the game first, students totally understand the algorithm so much better!

  40. I love having my students work in Math Centers! I try my hardest to make that happen 3-4 days a week, I think that it really helps students master all of the skills that are covered throughout the year.
