Oh my goodness… it was definitely a Monday for me today! This week is going to be all kinds of crazy with state testing. Definitely already looking forward to Friday 🙂
We started learning about adverbs today, and let me just tell you that it was a lot easier said than done! When we were generating sentences, I got several that were just like this: “My dog is kindly. I am nicely. The calmly student was in class.” BUT, it was our first day, so that made me feel a l.i.t.t.l.e better.
I made a chart with the things that we will mostly focus on in class.
Then, I gave each student 4 adverbs that they had to put into sentences. After I checked their sentences, they copied them to make a little adverb tree. This tree pattern is from my
Main Idea unit. I will tell you that I have SEVERAL students that are not finished yet… like I said this concept was easier said than done! We will definitely continue working on adverbs for the next few days.

That anchor chart is awesome! Love it. Adverbs are TRICKY! I just used a Schoolhouse Rock video to introduce adjectives to myclass. My kids LOVED it. DEFINITELY a throwback.

Kelley… it's a small group with modifications. The kids have to be pulled out to be tested, so several K-2 teachers help out!

Mine like acting out adverbs… good segue into writing (particularly for children with lower literacy levels). It helps them make the connection between the verb and the adverb. Then we write some simple sentences to describe our actions and finally improve them to make SUPER sentences!
