Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch

Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch is such a wonderful story to read any time of the year. I love THIS version on StorylineOnline. For the reading activity below, students make Mr. Hatch and glue his character traits around his face. Then they write about Mr. Hatch’s character development.

Zombie in Love

I found Zombie in Love a couple of years ago and just adored it. For some reason kids are fascinated by zombies, so it’s a fun way to incorporate love and zombies. We created division story problems for Zombies in Love. The students had to divide out the brains for all of the Zombie’s friends.

Love is My Favorite Thing

Talk about a precious book… Love is My Favorite Thing tops my list! It isn’t necessarily about Valentine’s Day, but it’s the perfect book to read during the love season. After reading the story the students created Tasty Traits Pizza. Students wrote character traits to describe the dog in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Martina the Beautiful Cockroach

With this next book you can tie in Valentine’s Day AND folktales! Martina the Beautiful Cockroach is a Cuban Folktale. Martina is trying to find the perfect suitor. Students make Martina and write about the story or the main character after listening to the read-aloud.

Robot in Love

Of all the books, this one is my absolute favorite. Robot in Love is the PERFECT book to read for Valentine’s Day. And the ending….. so so good and unexpected! It has so many wonderful moments throughout the book. Students create and describe the robot after reading the story.
