Turkey Trouble with a FREEBIE

Have you ever read Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano? If you haven’t, you can find a great read aloud on Storyline Online HERE. It’s a really fun story about a clever turkey who is trying to NOT become Thanksgiving dinner.

Today I have a summarizing activity that can be used with any turkey book you have in your classroom. Students retell the story on the feathers of the turkey. This can be printed out or done digitally! This works perfectly with Turkey Trouble.

Speaking of Turkey Trouble, Katie and I just released a special edition of Rooted in Reading for this fun book! All of the activities come in printable and digital formats. One of the really neat things about this teaching resource is we include a few teaching videos to help you and your students!

Along with writing a summary, another great skill to focus on while reading Turkey Trouble is Analyzing a Character. We made an anchor chart that can be printed out or used digitally. Students generate character traits to describe the main character.

Here you can see that I described Turkey on the feathers. You can also take it a step further and have students organize the feathers based on when the turkey portrayed each character trait throughout the story. Then I wrote about how Turkey overcame challenges throughout the story.

You know that we always focus on vocabulary. Within the resource, we share a video with hand movements so that your students can learn, apply, and use the new words that they learn!
