Have you ever heard of the book Stumpkin by Lucy Ruth Cummins? If you have never read it, you MUST! I don’t say this about every book, but this is a stinkin’ good one! Click HERE to find it on Amazon and buy it RIGHT AWAY!
Stumpkin is a pumpkin without a stem. He lives in a pumpkin stand in the city, and really wants someone to choose him. He knows that he is different, but just craves being turned into a jack-o-lanterns so that everyone can see how beautiful he is! Well, he is the only pumpkin left in the stand on Halloween, but that doesn’t stop him from having his shining moment.
And don’t you worry… Katie and I made a really fun and engaging ELA unit to go along with it. Students will learn how to create mental images, use new vocabulary words, and describe nouns with adjectives.
We hope you enjoy reading Stumpkin! Click HERE to see all of the activities we made to go along with it!
