Kindergarten Math Activities with a Freebie!

After finishing the entire bundle for Rooted in Reading Kindergarten over the last several months, this creator needed a break!! I took a few weeks to recharge and think about what I wanted to do next and since I was already in the Kinder mood, I thought it would be a great opportunity to create some kindergarten math activities you could use for the upcoming school year! Thus, the Kindergarten Math: Lesson Plans and Activities for Numbers 0-10 unit was born! Today, I’ll be sharing exactly what you can expect from this resource.

Kindergarten Math Unit

The Kinder Math unit features 10 days worth of lesson plans and activities for identifying, writing, and modeling the numbers 0-10. This unit was heavily influenced by our Magic of Math bundle, so if you own it, you can expect similar activities and games! The over 40 activities are split into 2 weeks and include weekly assessments. Sticking with a construction theme, students will be little workers building, digging, and tearing things down in an engaging way!

During the first week, students will be working with the numbers 0-5 and the second week will conclude with the remaining numbers 6-10 with a review of all the numbers! Beginning with identifying the numbers themselves, they will use the provided number posters. Here’s a look at just a few of the many activities I’ve included in the unit.

They will use the Fill the Frame work mat to practice writing the number and using “counters” or drawings to show the number in their work. You can create a little rock pile for them to ‘dig’ out their manipulatives! And just so you can get an idea of how it all works, I pulled this activity directly from the unit as a FREEBIE for you below! So, don’t forget to grab it on your way out!

Students will have lots of fun with the number dump game! Students will have a deck of cards with different numbers, they will pull a card, and using play-doh, students will fill up their dump trucks with the number of ‘rocks’ asked for. There are also printable rocks that can be used. They can use their fingers to smash each one as they count!

Students will practice numbers with the Cone Crew. In this activity, students will count the dots, write the number, and use the color code to color their cones to correlate with the number.

With the Number Crew Spot it activity, students will be identifying the numbers 6-10 shown and color each section using the color code.

In the Tractor Toss Game, students will toss a pom to see which number they land on. They will name the number and fill the tractor with the number of poms they landed on. They will also write the number on the answer line.

These activities are only a taste of the engaging plus fun kindergarten math activities included in this unit. Students will be playing with tally marks, digging for worms, spinning for numbers, and so much more!  I can’t wait for your students to experience it. And since I’m not quite sure I’m ready to dive into a bundle, be sure to let me know if you use it and love it!
