10 Novels for Middle School Students

Middle school is a tough time. It’s that awkward transition from being a kid but not quite a teenager. You’re just sort of floating somewhere in the middle searching for something to hold on to or really, to relate to. My favorite thing about having a middle school-aged kid is watching her find those relatable moments in books! Books have become both a fun escape and a way to make sense of all the things happening in her world. So. much. change. My friends! If you have a preteen of your own at home, then you may be looking for the same thing. Well, I had my daughter round up her current list of top 10 novels (and she has read many!) for middle school students so you can have a fighting chance at home with your little readers.

We are avid readers and my kids actually enjoy reading over most other things (just check out THIS list of reads from my 4th-grade son), so you can rest assured that these selections are proven to be good (by her anyway, ha!)

I’ve linked them all below! And as always, be sure to read over the description and reviews to ensure it aligns with the reading goals of your family.

Just look at that little face, she’s so happy! She had a blast pulling these reads together. A couple of titles are big-name books turned movies, but there are many that you may have never seen! From book characters appearing right from the pages in The Book Wanderers to a beautiful telling of a disability experience in Song for a Whale, there is something for everyone!

Here’s a closer look at the books.
